The Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art, is the oldest public art museum in the United States, and one of the most interesting to visit. The museum was founded in 1842 by Daniel Wadsworth, one of the first important American patrons of the arts. Its collections include nearly 50,000 works of art. I especially enjoyed the unsurpassed collection of Hudson River School landscapes and the collection of American colonial furniture and decorative arts and the Samuel Colt firearms collection. The museum continues to schedule new exhibitions, lectures, tours, performances, films, and family events. We also always enjoy a visit to the lovely Museum Café, most museum food is, how should I put it …..Hmm not so good, not so with the Museum Café, open for lunch Wednesday through Sunday, the menu includes freshly prepared sandwiches, salads and pastries, you might want to check out the Sunday jazz brunch.
